Gun Season Overview

Well gun season has been quite a bit different this year. We haven't been seeing the deer that we have in the past. Zane got his buck with my .44 but I haven't gotten anything yet! Unfortunately, neither have my other partners in crime. Don't worry, we still have muzzle loader season and a late gun season this year!

Here are some of the Ladig men and their bucks...

Hectic Times!!!

Well its been crazy around here lately. Nursing school has proved to be a challenge with my time management so I haven't been able to get on and post! We had an awesome Halloween party last weekend and celebrated our sister Sami's Birthday the weekend before! Desirea, Sami and I walked in the Beat BC 5k recently as well! It is held at the high school every year in October for breast cancer month!

Updates on the deer trail... NOTTA. We only have a few friends that have connected in the last few weeks. Just haven't been seeing the deer that we used to. Hittin' the treestand tonight so I will keep ya'll posted!

Our sister Misty, and Boneheads Outdoors's Josh. He was from Duck Dynasty!

The wonderful Sisters.

Sam, me and Sami before her B-day 80's bash!

Desirea, Sami, and me walking for Beat BC 5K. :) Whoot whoot Survivor!

W.A.D.

It's time again for W.A.D. night at the Deer Shop!!! Every year the guys (Zane's Uncles, Dad, friends, cousins... etc.) treat their wives to dinner for all the work the wives put into it also. They decided to call it "WAD... wife appreciation dinner"! They do it because the women are putting up with their constant hunting, hardly being home, having to cook on the nights they butcher deer, and helping when they cut them up and package them! We all work together and the system works well. I am the only wife that hunts so I get lucky and get to participate in the dinner anyways! :)

They guys are grilling up steaks so I'm excited!!!

Last Night

Hey!

Last night was not so great for hunting. Seemed like perfect weather and I could hear them off in the woods grunting but none stepped out in front of my blind. Next time!!!!

Next week sometime we will check with our local brothers "Boneheads Outdoors" and we will see how they fared!!!

Frosty Mornin'

Zane and I went out this morning to hit the stands. It seemed like a picture perfect day to be hunting but apparently the deer felt otherwise! At about 2 hours after Go Time we saw a doe and 2 jacks, but they didn't come close enough. I thought for sure I would see somethin' come out under my stand but they stuck to the field. I was  irritated by some crazy squirrels today though I can tell you that much!!!

I'm gonna go out for round 2 tonight so tune in!!!

Update on week 1

Hey ya'll!!!

This week was an EXTREMELY interesting week for us. On Tuesday I went out and sat in the blind in the woods. I saw several deer around 7ish and took a long shot at a decent doe... unfortunately it was too far and I missed. BUT I learned how far is too far so that was a good learning experience for me!

Zane and I went out to help one of our friends find a doe that he took a shot at. Sadly, we lost the blood trail and had to give up. Maybe next time!!!

So far none of the Sisters of the Outdoors have gotten anything, but we will keep you up to date!

Next week I am going to trim up the area around my treestand that I put up last week and hopefully I will have several decent shots.

Talk to you soon!!!

Sleeves are donned so we don't shiver.
Faces are painted to look like the tree.
This is so exciting for you and for me!
Hurry, quickly we cannot delay,
Hooray, hooray for opening day!!!

Youth Weekend- Saturday night

It was a beautiful first night of youth weekend Saturday night. Sunset was at 7:26 so quitting time was 7:56.  We hunted out at my parent's. My brother (Josh) and I went out at about 6:20. Got up into the stand and didn't see our first deer until about 7:15 which was pretty typical for our property. First out was a basket 8 point buck. He was pretty decent size but the shot was over 120 yards and Josh wasn't comfortable shooting open sited. He got out there about 20 more yards and out walked a big guy behind him. I couldn't tell how big his rack was but he had a HUGE body and his tines were pretty tall as far as we could tell. Unfortunately, he too was too far out.

After about 20 minutes we saw a group of about 5 or 6 up on the ridge across from us. It looked to be all does but it was starting to get dark and we couldn't really tell. Josh spotted a few more across the hay field off to the left, but none came close enough.

It was a beautiful night though and we saw a lot of deer. We know their schedule and pattern now so hopefully it will lead to a great year!

Sunset over the treeline.

Full moon over the trees, reflecting on the pond.

Tri-County

Hey ya'll! Welp, one week from now is opening day of archery season and I cannot wait!! We headed out to Tri-County to scope out some of the deer activity. I haven't ever been there before and I really really loved it. Zane and I found a few places that we saw deer traffic so hopefully it'll be a great spot for us.

For those of you that don't know... Tri-State is a wildlife preserve in Syracuse, Indiana.

"Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area is dedicated to providing quality hunting and fishing opportunities while maintaining 3,546 acres of land, with 650 acres of lakes and impoundments. This area is composed of flat to rolling upland fields and gradual to steep slopes of oak-hickory woodlands, falling off to depressions of wetlands. Tri-County includes 10 natural lakes with water depths of 75 feet.
Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area was established in 1951. By 1953, formal management of the property was underway. In 1963, a dam was constructed at the outlet of six natural lakes, creating Flatbelly Marsh. This wetland is an important area for migratory waterfowl, furbearers, shorebirds and fish."

Introducing.... Mrs. Desirea Burdette! :)

Desirea has been one of my very best friends since we were 13 years old. She moved to our high school about that time and quickly became one of our sisters. She married Daniel in 2009 and they are expecting their first baby boy this August!

Dezi's Papa showed us how to tie flies when we were young teens and taught us a lot about fishing. Desirea enjoys the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. She shares that passion with her husband. She has been hunting the longest out of The Sisters of the Outdoors.

Soon we will have a full profile on Desirea so stay tuned! :)

Hello! :)

Hi my name is Ashley. I decided to create a blog where me and my girl friends can go and share our stories from the outdoors. Follow us through the seasons as we hunt, fish, camp and get dirty! :)
